How it works

No app to download and nothing to install. It takes about two minutes to set up a property.

Add your property

Choose the checks it needs (smoke and heat alarms, CO alarms, emergency lighting) and how often: weekly or monthly.

Put up the QR poster

Print it and stick it near the alarm panel or front door. One poster covers every check.

Anyone does the check

They scan, follow the steps for that alarm, take a photo and send. You see it straight away, with the time and how far from the property it was done.

Let your tenants do the checks for you

Set a reward for a streak of checks done on time, and your tenants will want to keep it going. You choose what and when: for example, 12 months in a row earns a £20 takeaway voucher, or a bottle of wine.

  • You pick the reward: cash, a takeaway or shopping voucher, or anything you like.
  • You pick the streak: every 4, 6 or 12 checks in a row, say.
  • They see their progress every time they scan, so nobody forgets.

A few pounds a year is far cheaper than a trip to the property every month.

If there's ever a fire, the question will be: can you prove the alarms were working?

Landlords must make sure smoke alarms work and carbon monoxide alarms are fitted where needed. In Wales, not providing working alarms can also stop a section 173 notice being valid. A signed poster on the wall is not proof. A dated photo log of every test is.

Is it OK for tenants or cleaners to do the checks?

Yes. Testing an alarm with its test button is a simple job, and each check comes with clear steps. You stay responsible for servicing and repairs; SafeTick gives you the record that checks happened.

Does the tester need an app or an account?

No. They scan the QR code with their phone camera and it opens in the browser.

What if an alarm fails?

The tester reports it, you get an email straight away, and it shows on your dashboard until you mark it as fixed.
